Welcome to Texas. It is a bit warmer than Calgary. Our squirrels are found of this fruit and the usual culprits when you find them torn apart on the ground. If you split it apart you will find many seeds, since it belongs to the Mulberry family. Enjoy your visit.
Thanks for the information, very interesting. We are visiting Texas from Calgary and have never seen anything like the fruit.
Osage Indians once fashioned powerful bows from a native tree found in portions of Arkansas, Oklahoma and eastern Texas. French explorers described the trees as "bois d'arc" (bow wood), later anglicized into "bodark."
