As the city of Bangalore expands at an alarming rate, so do the needs of its growing population. In response to the rapid conversion of green spaces in the city and forests around the city to farmland or urban sprawl, bee populations in and around the city have been on the decline. Our team at ATREE aims to study the impact of urbanization in Bangalore on the diversity and distribution of wood-nesting solitary bees.
Even within an urban setting bees can still provide valuable pollinator services. Carpenter bees have been found to be particularly important to the agricultural landscape of South India. Help us promote urban bee diversity and help pollinate the crops that feed you.
We need data on the species of bees spotted, the number of individuals spotted and the exact location of the sighting. Preferably restricted to solitary wood-nesting bees such as carpenter bees.
