Eastern Coyote
The coyote (Canis latrans) is referred to by many as the most successful modern-day predator. They can be found across much of Canada and in all US states, excluding Hawaii. They are traditionally shy and reclusive, and excel at living in both urban, suburban and rural habitats. These adaptive and curious animals weight around 30 to 40 lbs (in winter they can appear larger because of their bushy coats) with the Eastern coyote often being larger than the Western coyote, although they are considered to be the same species. In Canada, Eastern coyotes have been seen in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and other eastern provinces.

Help us identify areas in which Eastern coyotes are being seen. We are interested in any photos of coyotes you come across in your neighborhood, whether it's from your morning run, when you are out walking your dog, or catching a glimpse in a local park or on a hiking trail.
Some co-existence tips: Do not approach or track coyotes just to take their photo. If they are raising pups in the spring and summer, they will be more territorial as they are protective, caring parents. Please do not encourage your dog to chase them or leave out food to attract them.
