Field Notes

Description:

In my dialect of Gulf Arabic, this is known as "mashmoom" (مشموم). It has a lovely scent. I believe it is in the basil family but per my grandmother it is not edible. She says it is simply used for its scent (but not in incense). I would like to know its name in English. This plant was planted by my grandmother in our shared courtyard.
