Description:

Possible 5-lined Ground Skink, Juvenille.

Habitat:

In yard on 10 acres.

It is most likely a five-lined skink (Plestiodon fasciatus), but could also be a broadhead skink (Plestiodon laticeps). To tell the two apart, you have to count the number of scales on the upper lip. The photo is fuzzy when I zoom in so I can't do that, but I live in this same area and have never seen a broadhead even though they are only in range, have only picked them up in very east TX. Everything I've seen around Houston has been a five-lined, so I would be pretty confident in calling it one
