Field Notes

Description:

Civet - Small head, pointed pinkish coloured snout.. Long white whiskers. Broad white stripe along length of neck. Mottled black, beige coat. Dark stripe running along back, with white stripe either side. Ringed striped markings on legs & larger bands of white along tail.

Habitat:

Nakhon Si Thammarat Zoo

Notes:

There is a National Parks information board on the roadside entering the village where I live with a picture of what I now know is a civet. Uncertain of which as there is no further information. This was one of the few species within the zoo that did not have a species board on the outside of the enclosure, but I believe it could be a Large-Spotted Civet.

Species ID Suggestions

Asian Civet Cat

Paradoxurus hermaphroditus

Thank you for the suggestion Jonathan. The civets that were moving around the enclosure had definite white bands around the tail, which according to Wiki the Asian Civet Cat does not have. The civet laying down in the back of the enclosure might possibly have been another species as its markings appeared to be different.
