Field Notes

Description:

This orchid is interesting because the leaves unfurl in autumn, persist through the winter and then wither away in late spring. The flowers then appear in mid-late summer and are hard to spot in the leaf litter without leaves to draw ones attention.

Habitat:

Forest understory.
