Field Notes

Description:

Tiny insects form homes by modifying the natural growth of the host plant. They always seem to appear in dense communities on several leaves leaving much of the rest of the tree unaffected. These 'pots' would probably be made by the females.

Habitat:

E.viminalis in local sports ground.

No problems Martin - we're all on the same webpage then :-)
Oh, my language was clumsy. The link to the flickr image shows trumpet shaped galls and was labeled as possibly males of Tanyscelis sp. That is the diagnosis that I was questioning, not yours. The link supplied by Leuba, and also the link on the flickr page, shows the male to form a much smaller gall. I am sorry that have expressed my question very ambiguously.
Not sure what's going on here Martin... everything looks the same as your spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/17736239 and the link is the same reference used by Leuba http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/15733390 ... sorry I must have missed something ??
check images c and h in this link for male galls. http://openi.nlm.nih.gov/detailedresult.php?img=3088339_ZooKeys-058-001-g003&query=the&fields=all&favor=none&it=none&sub=none&uniq=0&sp=none&req=4&simCollection=3153147_tmh-39-1-suppl_1-3-g120&npos=11&prt=3
I'm not sure if I agree with this diagnosis but here is a suggestion for you http://www.flickr.com/photos/justjjoke/7053698837/
