Field Notes

Description:

This was growing all over the leaves of a pear tree.

Habitat:

In a tree growing in a moist, shaded area. The grass surrounding was thick and obviously not receiving much sunlight either. White mold was growing in places on it.

Notes:

Pictures taken with an iPhone 5. Didn't realize my caucasian hands were absolutely glowing until later.

Machi
Looks like galls made by a midge or a wasp. They lay their eggs and induce the plant to make the gall around the young. We usually classify these as arthropods on Project Noah. Cool find!
