Field Notes

Description:

A tiny orchid, pollinated by gnats. Heart shaped leaves are the most visible part of this plant, which are seen trailing across the moss covered rock it was growing upon and are also found about 1/3 of the way up the flowering stems. Flowers are a very delicate, almost transparent green and purple, almost more visible at the budding stage. Overall the flowers appear greenish, with a purple labellum which comes down to a point. Lateral sepals have pointed tails and face foward under the labellumThey are a terrestrial tuborous herb with flowering stems from 2-10cm high

Habitat:

Found (by very sharp young eyes!) on just two moss covered rocks on the side of the walking track, not obviously seen anywhere else along this track. Under bush canopy but not deep shade

Notes:

VERY difficult to photograph with an android phone - but stunning little flowers. We only found them on the advice of a friend of where to look.

Another tiny subject most people would just walk past. Well done on a great spotting.
