Field Notes

Description:

One of the largest hares in North America reaching about 2 ft in length. Their long ears can reach 5.1 inches in length and have black tips. The fur is light brown with a light amount of black to help it blend into the desert scrub. Black tail, brown eyes, and long powerful rear legs characteristic of hares.

Habitat:

Spotted at Joshua Tree National Park. Desert Scrub habitats (see pic 4).
