Field Notes

Description:

A curious and perfect construction that I found on a plant on my yard.
Made of some sticks and "webs", maybe belongs to some Moth or other insect/bug, I don't know exactly...

Habitat:

I found this nest on my yard, a region of transition between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest.

This is a Psychidae, Bag Worm Moth. I am not sure if it is Oiketicus sp. You may look for it once more. It might move, but not so fast. Try to take a picture of the adult wingless/flightless female (or the caterpillar), which remains all the time in the bag, lay its eggs and drop to the ground to die later. Here is a Oiketicus cf. kirbyi with more links to look: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/178566057 http://www.flickr.com/photos/dominikhofer/4415094342/
This is a beautiful Case Moth, Leonardo. Such a clever structure. This one is a great size too. Nice spotting!
