Honey Bee Swarm
Apis mellifera
26.1995, -81.7634
Field Notes
Description:
The honey bee swarm arrived in November 2016. It took over our Screech Owl nesting box. We were hoping they would "buzz off" and find a better home - it is February 22, 2017. They are still here! I think they like this home! We are searching for a beekeeper to come and take the bees away as our grand child is allergic to honey bee stings.
Habitat:
"Florida Yard" and Butterfly Garden, which contains many different blooming trees, shrubs, and flowers, as well as a nature preserve within 500 feet of the nesting box.
Notes:
So far the honeybees have not been aggressive, but I have been very careful not to spend too much time in the vicinity of the bee hive, and I have warmed others of the beehive presence.
