Description:

The Black Katy chiton is an eight plated, oval shaped mollusk that is about 2 inches long (5 cm). The shiny plates give it articulated movement allowing it to move across uneven surfaces, usually rocks.

Habitat:

Spotted on an exposed rock at low tide. Tongue Point. Mopalia muscosa is an inter-tidal species.

Notes:

Range is Alaska to Baha California. This species is protected in the USA under the Coastal Zone Management Act.
