Field Notes

Description:

This aquatic coral snake was nearly three feet long, about an inch in diameter, and darker than most with a lot of black obscuring the colors. It would be difficult to see in the water and we almost missed it in the dark.

Habitat:

This coral snake was moving pretty fast up from the Amazon River at night, and didn't stop for its photo.

Notes:

While most coral snakes are smaller and wouldn't be able to bite more than a finger or toe, the aquatic water snake is large enough to pose more of a problem, since its mouth is large enough that it could bite most parts of the body. There have been known human casualties from its venom.

Hi Irene. Just seeing this as the PN search doesn't work. It would be great if you could add this to my Coral Snake Mission (https://www.projectnoah.org/missions/240...). Thanks.
