Field Notes

Habitat:

This Zigzag Banded Dart was spotted in our backyard, visiting Globe amaranth (Gomphrena globosa L.), known in the Philippines as Botones-botonesan. Plant information from http://www.stuartxchange.org/Botoncillo.........

Notes:

Hesperiidae; Hesperiinae; Potanthus mingo mingo W.H.Edwards, 1866. The Zigzag Banded Dart is a regular visitor to the rice fields and surrounding areas, during the rainy season. In the dry season, they can still be seen, in and around the mangroves, along the coast of the South China Sea, just a short distance from where I live (about a 15 to 20 minutes walk). This little butterfly's chocolate brown base colour and its golden yellow markings make it one of the most beautiful of the "Darts".
