That cardnal better watch out...the blue jay in the yard is going to chase him away.
What a lovely bird you have here! However, this is the Northern Cardinal, Cardinalis cardinalis. They are distinguished by their all red body in males and brownish body with red edges in females. They also come from the family Cardinalidae, which contains the true Cardinals. Cardinalis cardinalis: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/northern_cardinal/id Paroaria coronata, the Red-crested Cardinal, had only a red head and is from the family Emberizidae. The back is gray and the breast is white. Paroaria coronata: http://neotropical.birds.cornell.edu/portal/species/overview?p_p_spp=640396
