Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized Sunbird at 12cm. Bright scarlet back, head, throat and upper breast. Belly and vent grey, tail a dark violet and forehead an iridescent purple/blue. Also sports a black moustache.

Habitat:

This male seen feeding on flowers in Singapore Botanic Gardens. Otherwise found throughout most of SE Asia and across to Philippines and Sulawesi.

Notes:

A stunning little bird. This species is the unofficial national bird of Singapore.
