Field Notes

Description:

The Lark Sparrow is a fairly large American sparrow. It is the only member of the genus Chondestes. This passerine bird breeds in southern Canada, much of the United States, and northern Mexico.

Habitat:

Open weedy area, orange groves, oak trees

Notes:

Lark Sparrows are in full song here. Last year I didn't find a nest, but I did find a pair feeding fledglings.
