Field Notes

Description:

The largest and most common bird of prey on the Falkland Islands, we saw these birds almost everywhere. There is a subspecies that lives exclusively on these islands. To distinguish them from the other large birds of prey that live on the Falklands, look for the shallow V shape profile in flight (pics 4 and 5). This group of three vultures followed us back to the ship... kind of disconcerting!

Habitat:

Found all over the Falklands, these vultures followed us from the beach at Yorke Bay all the way back to Stanley.
