Field Notes

Description:

About 15 millimeters in length, colored as shown with a dense covering of silky yellowish hairs on the pronotum (top of thorax). Eltyra (wing covers) with bumpy texture.

Habitat:

Found on bones of large mammal at the bottom of a deep, narrow ditch. Surrounding habitat is severely degraded shortgrass prairie in an urban setting.

Notes:

Also known as the Northern Carrion Beetle.
