Wild Geranium
Geranium carolinianum
30.3664, -97.7861
Field Notes
Description:
Very small flowers when in bloom. These are the seed structures, a short spike surrounded by the seeds. The leaves are deeply lobed
Habitat:
In a grassy area alongside a small creek
Notes:
The seed dispersal for the Wild Geranium is very interesting. The seeds are held in a sort of ring of catapults around a central stalk. As it dries out, the scoop of the catapult is released and springs up, tossing the seed far (relatively speaking) from the parent plant.
