Field Notes

Description:

17-year Cicada.

Habitat:

It is located on a hickory sapling and appears to be enjoying a healthy lunch.

Notes:

Although they have been in the area for a couple of weeks now, this is the first one I've seen in my woodland setting. Its wings look like they are lined in gold. By May 22, 2013, they have spread to Sassafras and Cedar saplings along the edge of a field. The background sound of their voices is much louder today.
