I have CharleneBurgess, contrary to some of their common names like Mosquito Hawk and Skeeter-eater, adult crane flies usually do not eat or drink. Some may feed at flowers. They usually live long enough to reproduce. They are harmless and cannot bite or sting. Most crane fly larva eat decaying organic material. None are known to feed on mosquitoes specifically.
I've heard them called Mosquito Hawks here in Oregon. Have you ever heard that name?
Love the markings on the wings of this species! Very neat!
