Description:
Some 20 cm in length, typically bulbul, predominantly brown. This bulbul is often lumped together with Common bulbul and sometimes treated as its subspecies. However, the Dark-capped bulbul sports bright yellow vent (while the Common has it whitish), and shows rather sharp contrast between the brown cap (hood) and whitish lower chest and abdomen. Regarding the cap, the face & chin & crown are usually darker than the rest of it. Like all Pycnonotus bulbuls, the Dark-capped also has a short hindcrown crest.
Habitat:
Found in any kind of habitat, savannah, forest edge, gardens... except deep forest. Here observed regularly in urban setting of Kinshasa; Very common in southern part of Africa, starting with equatorial Africa and soutwards. (The Common bulbul occupies the northern part of sub-Saharan Africa).
