Field Notes

Description:

These large wading birds are 71–86 cm (28–34 in) in length with a wingspan of about 120–133 cm (47–52 in). The adults have a greenish/white head but more golden during the breeding season. The neck is white with the back, wings, and breast being pinkish. The depth of the pinkish coloration is dependent upon food resources rich in carotenoids, age, and season.

Habitat:

Wetlands, mudflats.
