Red-headed Woodpecker
Melanerpes erythrocephalus
34.0242, -84.6176
Field Notes
Description:
Once again, lighting conditions were not optimal - but that never seems to stop me from trying.
Habitat:
Red-headed Woodpeckers live in pine savannahs and other open forests with clear understories. Open pine plantations, treerows in agricultural areas, and standing timber in beaver swamps and other wetlands all attract Red-headed Woodpeckers.
Notes:
Spotted in the yard at the building where my daughter takes music lessons. This is probably the same bird spotted here previously (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/22760061) as it's the same dead tree in the same lot as last time.
