Ugly milk-cap
Lactarius necator
-37.8719, 145.347
Field Notes
Description:
In a group of about 10 these were up to 100mm across. Black all over but suspecting partly due to another fungal attack. Maybe that's what L turpis suffers from everywhere in the world.
Habitat:
Within a very old garden full of introduced species including tall, mostly European trees. Altitude 500metres.
Notes:
Also L plumbeus and L turpis this group was well on the road to collapse. The last pic shows the old gills with some black fluids exuding. The gills in a healthy specimen are close, straight and clear.
