Field Notes

Description:

Soldier Flies in the wasp/bee-resembling family Stratiomyidae are commonly mistaken for Syrphid Flies in the family Syrphidae. Odontomyia cincta is an especially lime-green fly with bright red eyes. In the second photo, you can see how I would mistake it for a grasshopper at first!

Habitat:

Resting on some honeysuckle (Lonicera sp., I think.)

Notes:

Lifer!
