Field Notes

Description:

Great Blue Herons are not really blue but is a blue-grey.It has a black stripes over the eyes with the head being mostly white. Neck is either a pale grey or reddish color. Wings are a pale grey and flight feathers being a dark color. Long legs, neck and a long dagger shaped bill.
The younger Herons have a black crown with long feathers.

Habitat:

Mostly near water but can be found also in fields and in large lawns

Notes:

First image is two nestlings ready to leave the nest. The second image is a fledgling watching the Red-shouldered Hawk. Third is an adult. There are many nesting sites around the lake.
