It seemed dead so I bagged it but a day later it seemed to pull it's legs in

we searched the internet for identification but to no avail. Perhaps some species of Orb Weaver. After I noticed the slight movement I returned it to the garden as I understand some spider species can play dead when frightened or threatened.
