Description:

This is an averaged sized heron that is widely spread throughout the world. Both sexes are similar looking. They have a dark head, nape and back; lighter underneath. Red eyes and black bill. Yellow legs. Immature is not so distinctly marked and is shown in photo.

Habitat:

ypically found near water, where they hunt food. Nests in trees or on the ground in protected locations, such as islands and wetlands. The black-crowned night-heron is found on five continents and is the most widely spread heron species in the world.
