Field Notes
Description:
This beautiful terracotta-coloured hepialid had a wing span of 100 mm. It was resting with the wings tented-up as in Pic 3. Fore wings showed small patterns of brilliant white against ochre-terracotta and broad diagonal bands of pale brown. Each fore wing had a streak of white runnign from the wing base to the trailing margin. Thorax and legs were covered with brown setae. Antennae were short and toothed. Eyes were dark.
Under side of wings were a rosy-brown (Pic 5)
Habitat:
Spotted under bright lights near a national park.
