Field Notes

Description:

Like all ticks, it can be a vector of diseases including human monocytotropic ehrlichiosis, canine and human granulocytic ehrlichiosis, tularemia, and Southern tick-associated rash illness.
Though the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease has occasionally been isolated from lone star ticks, numerous vector competency tests have demonstrated that this tick is extremely unlikely to be capable of transmitting Lyme disease.

Habitat:

Semi rural

Notes:

One of 17 I found on me after spending 40 minutes in my yard. :-(

I wasn't particularly nice to this one Maria - as you can see its legs are a little mangled! We have at least 4 species of tick here in TN - deer, dog, brown & lone star, & I've found all but the brown tick in our yard. Sorry to hear you're having some problems for tick bites. I hope your course of antibiotics does the trick.
Nice that you photographed it so there is a spotting. I loathe ticks and am on a course of antibiotics now to prevent Rocky Mountain spotted fever. It really wouldn't occur to me to stop and photograph one of these insects.
