Description:

The Rock Grevillea - Grevillea heliosperma, also commonly known as the Red Grevillea, is a shrub native to northern Australia and a member of the family Proteaceae. Generally grows to around 3 to 5 m (13-20 ft) tall, rarely to 8 m (25 ft). The flowers are arranged in racemes and are red or pink. Flowers are followed by round 2.5-3 cm diameter woody fruit, each of which contains two seeds.

Habitat:

Usually found in open woodlands or on escarpments and ridges in sandy soils. This specimen was spotted at the Brisbane Botanical Gardens, Mt. Coot-tha. Of course it was located in the semi-arid section of the gardens.

Notes:

I love all species of Grevillea. Their flowers never fail to attract all sorts of native birds.
