Field Notes

Description:

The Silver-leaved Paperbark (aka Silver Tea Tree and Silver Leaf Cadjeput) is a member of the Myrtaceae family. In Australia, it is the third most diverse plant genus (Melaleuca) with up to 250 species. It is endemic to Australia. Grows as a rheophyte in riparian and gallery forest on sandy creek banks. Its foliage is silvery (although in my photos they look green), and the cream, perfumed 'bottle brush' flowers attract numerous bird species.

Habitat:

This tree was spotted at the Brisbane Botanical Gardens, Mt. Coot-Tha.

Notes:

The bark on this tree was amazing. Looks like some boring insect has had a field day here.
