No worries I produce a lot of antifreeze protein so I just inject you some but actually some ice cream products already contain the protein. It keeps the ice cream soft if you freeze it for the second time :)
Great spotting! I'm wondering Faredin if you can try that on humans too :D I am super winter-intolerant and wish to volunteer ;)
Actually I have it here where you can see the eggs, larvae and the adult: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/16174468
I was studying how they survive the freezing winters, with focus on a protein that they produce is called antifreeze protein. It prevents them of freezing totally so they don't die. I was breeding them also, and collecting larvae from the forest for 2 years :). They are exactly like you described, they aren't shy so it's fun to work with them.
Ah, sounds interesting, what's been the subject of your thesis? I love all Rhagiums 'cause they always act so curious - you sit there waiting for something interesting to happen and then such a little fellow shows up, looking like he wants just to check if everything's fine - "oh, is that a camera in your hand? Let me just take a closer look - right, yeah, ok, interesting, well, I have to move on, but I wish you good luck, he? Ok, thanks, bye!" and there he goes. Harhar :D
Ehh that is my master thesis beetle, worked with it for 1.5 years...great photo :)
