Description:
These were also abundant in the same field as the marbled whites, In photo 4 you can see the two battling it out for the same bramble flowers. Adults generally emerge in the middle of June, reaching a peak in early July. These butterflies favour thistles, knapweeds and are avid nectar feeders although in this warm weather they seemed to be basking in it more than feeding.
Habitat:
found at Brockadale nature reserve, grasslands owned and maintained by the Yorkshire wildlife trust. They are rarer in the East of the country as these were.
