Field Notes

Description:

I just love this little, red and black spider! The abdomen and the bottom two-thirds of all legs are black where the thorax and top third of the legs are red. This spider was only about 6mm long, hence the name "dwarf".

Habitat:

Unknown plant in field of fireweed, berry bushes, vetch and lupine.

Notes:

First of this genus on PN and the first in Alaska for BugGuide.

What a little beauty ! Looks like he's been polished for the photo. Lovely spotting,Cindy.
Thank you all! Mark, your similar spider could take on this one. Mine is only 6mm long. I guess I should include that in the description :)
That's pretty special. Nice spotting. Very similar to our 'red and black' spiders but they wouldn't last 2 seconds in Alaska. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/16511393
