Field Notes

Description:

This is a large Ladybug and delightfully "classic Ladybug" as well as very shiny. I found two different individuals. Pictures 1 and 2 have more white on the pronotum than the one in pictures 3, 4 and 5. This species was imported into the US from Japan for garden bio-control and is widespread on the East Coast and is now on the West Coast as well. And...apparently in Southern Mexico too.

Habitat:

Open field, semi-urban area, outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
