Description:

Lichens are hybrid organisms consisting of fungus and a partnering algae. Living as a symbiont, a lichen appears to be a very successful way for a fungus to derive essential nutrients. This particular lichen is Crustose and is found on rocks and tree bark. Crustose has learned to adapt to its environment and has adapted quite well to the dry climates. Crustose can come in a variety of colors such as yellow, orange, red, gray and green.
