Giant Rooting Shank
Xerula radicata
-37.8854, 145.318
Field Notes
Description:
This looks like Xerula australis or similar but I was amazed to see such a huge version - approximately 400mm tall and the cap was about 90mm across. Stipe was up to about 18mm thick. Very viscid (sorry about my thumb print in #1)
Habitat:
In very dark, damp, tall eucalyptus rain forest in a national park.
Notes:
I just need to confirm the ridiculous size of this one... we have seen hundreds of Xerula radicata but never this size... so maybe Xerula somethingelse? <br>
