Field Notes

Description:

Almost missed this tiny little butterfly because it is so small, less than an inch. Very light iridescent pale blue with brownish gray along outer margin. Female's have 2-3 small orange spots with black dots near margin of hind wings.

Habitat:

This Eastern-tailed butterfly is common along freshly mowed roadsides. I actually spotted in a freshly mowed field at Kinder Farm Park in Millersville, Maryland.
