Field Notes

Description:

Somebody had one of these lately. Have to look and see who

Notes:

Martini guided me to this link by Mark Ridgeway who has a similar one http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/37761095 I am even unsure of the Paropsis genus but if it helps people find it...
Paropsis ornata is very similar as well http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/17518152

Species ID Suggestions

It was making me think of how long it might take for this beetle species to evolve to look like the galls on the gums of that very ridge or gully.
The more we find the harder they get to ID. I suppose if we keep plugging away it might eventually gel. That black scutellum might be a distraction ?
I agree it is quite similar. I will add the reference to the notes. I was sure I saw someone with one of these recently but I must have been imagining it. They are a fascinating mystery and I am enjoying watching Mark and yourself discussing what you find
Nice find Stephen. This is not one that I recognize. The more I study these, the more complex they seem to become and some of the references are dodgy. Nevertheless, I suggest that it looks similar to Paropsisterna inrtermedia as seen by Mark http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/37761095
