Field Notes

Description:

Single spikes, white trumpet shaped flowers twisting up stem,about 6 inches high. Temperate terrestrial orchid, fall flowering, biennial.

Habitat:

Slightly damp, mixed grass forest edge, along a grass trail. Part to full shade in this location.

Notes:

Spotted a Donnelly Nature Preserve during a class field trip (flower was actually spotted by a student and ID'd the next day. Area was flagged and Town parks was asked not to mow the area, but did not comply. Flowers have not been seen since :(
