Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized monkey with silvery fur, fuzzy at the cheeks and on top of the head, making them look like they have little mohawks. They eat mostly leaves, and in particular, mature, hard to digest leaves as well as a small amount of seeds, fruit and flowers. They are specially equipped to cope with their diet, having long digestive tracts and slow metabolisms.

Habitat:

Found in Borneo and Sumatra, as well as in parts of the south-western Malay peninsula, the Natuna Islands, and other nearby islands. It inhabits mangrove swamps and nearby forest regions, and generally avoids travelling far from coasts or rivers. Classed as near threatened due to habitat loss.
