Field Notes
Description:
The prairie lizard in Oklahoma is highly variable. There are 4 color varieties, called ecomorphs, fond in OK whose appearances are determined by the local habitat color. Its dorsal body color varies from gray to brown. It may have two light, longitudinal stripes on the back, and its scales are keeled. The male has blue patches on the throat and belly, especially during the breeding season, which can be displayed during courtship behavior. The females have wavy lines extending from side-to-side along their backs and much less blue on their bellies. Juveniles look like adults.
