I have a picture too, but mine is focused on the bee on it.

Hi Heather- I took this photo while I was stopped for gas! Used my IPhone, filled the tank and then left so I dont have a good series of shots of the flower. I think we all have the same genus but perhaps different species. After looking at Monkey-mind's picture some more and doing some searching, I believe my flower is same genus different species (bigger flower, taller plant). And off course regional names can vary but I did see the pincushion name also used for our flower.

If you look at my spotting on the left of the picture, there is a flower before it pops the blue-purple color out (or after, I'm not sure). Does your flower have that anywhere? I'm wondering if they are the same flower.

very nice photos! I am always amazed at how wildlife is so similar in different parts of the world. My photo is in Utah - yours is in Austria. Both are mountain countries but an ocean apart. Comparative analysis of orgs between countries would be a great study using Project Noah (for a classroom).
