Oh well I found a blue jay on the ground. Nest was high in the tree. I figured he fell out or got knocked out. Anyway I couldn't just leave him there. No where around here for birds or squirrels. I didn't know I could put him back in the nest. Anyway Blue Jay is healthy and I give it a few more weeks before he is ready. Thanks for the info Emma. Learn something new everyday :)
@Courtney - Emma's right & food will depend on the species. If you can't get it back to Mum, find a wildlife centre if you can.
Courtney ,since I have been dealing with this situation for a while , I have some new information regarding this belief! It is not true that a mother bird will not touch the fledgling once a human has touched it. That is a so called "old house wife Tale". I confirmed this with the Lindsay Museum Of Wild Life. kjcorya, Do not Give up!! Please check with your local wild life hospital and take their advice. Lindsay is always prepared for Fledgling season and they are more than happy to help out. Since they get so much Donation, they do not charge any body for asking for help/ Indiana should also have a Wild life centre. Are you in Kane County/
Maybe you can go to a feed store and buy some kind of food for it or call a wild life place or zoo.
Mother birds don't normally feed them once a human has touched them.
good luck...perhaps she's looking for food.
I put it back in nest but have not seen mama last 2 times I was in the barn I am getting kinda worried bout the
Just place it back in the nest if you can.
Have you seen the Mother bird? It looks a bit like a robin.
