Field Notes

Description:

Large male mantled howler monkey looking for food. This is one of the largest monkeys in Central America.

Habitat:

Native to Central America and South America. Found in "different types of forest, including secondary forest and semi-deciduous forest but is found in higher densities in older areas of forest and in areas containing evergreen forest"

Notes:

This large male was moving around in the trees above a small restaurant I was eating at. He didn't seem to be to concerned as I snapped photos. The third photo definitely confirms this monkey as a male :)

Awesome series Yasser! El Avion is such a cool place!
I spotted them too... in Costa Rica back in 2010 in tortuguero : http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6369011
hahaha! Yes, you're right! More camouflaged in the first one though!
The first picture also confirm it, Yasser!
